JT3 LLC is a Las Vegas-based joint venture of Raytheon and EG&G Company. As a prime Department of Defense (DOD) contractor, we provide engineering and technical support for developmental and operational government projects at multiple DOD Test and Training Ranges in the Southwestern U.S.
Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship is a mandatory requirement per our Security Classification Guide.
JT3 Web Site: Check out the other links on this Web site for details on the JT3 mission, our breadth and depth of involvement in DOD activities, and examples of engineering career opportunities.
Scientific Internship Opportunities: We are continuing our Summer Internship program, offering electrical engineering, computer science, computer engineering and mathematics students opportunities to learn while gaining valuable career experience. Actual job descriptions (for projects) will not be available until the interview process. Job assignments may vary as requirements dictate.
Career Opportunities: Providing more than just summer employment, we are seeking qualified and motivated interns to participate in active projects and explore the career opportunities available in our many highly technical and specialized endeavors. As student career interests, academic prowess, and company needs come together, our plan is to bring students back for multiple summers, with the possibility of part-time work during the school year and/or school project sponsorship, all leading to potential employment opportunities upon graduation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Each intern will be placed on a project under the direct supervision of a JT3 mentor, providing hands-on participation in ongoing work to the greatest extent possible. As many of our projects are classified, initial intern duties will be structured to allow work at the unclassified level until a security clearance can be obtained. Opportunities this summer include Real Time Programming (C, VxWorks); mathematical algorithm development (MatLab); Object Oriented development programming (in C++ and/or Java), and electrical engineering tasking in a variety of applications (mostly radar associated).
Education and Experience Desired:
- A minimum of junior class standing is required, along with a declared scientific major course of study (electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science or mathematics preferred).
- Although there is no minimum GPA requirement established, GPA will be considered in the selection process, along with academic courses taken.
- Strong computer skills are desired, including MS Office applications and other COTS packages. Completed coursework in electrical engineering/computer science/math and any technical job/hobby experience will be considered in the selection process. For electrical engineering positions, coursework in electromagnetics and antenna theory is highly desirable.
Salary/Hours/Starting Date: Salary will be based on experience and course work demonstrated, starting at $18 per hour plus benefits, for 40 hours per week, for a period of 12 weeks. In addition, a housing cost allowance will be available on a limited number of intern positions (intended for interns without a Las Vegas residence).

Consideration for an Interview. In January / February 2010 we will begin to evaluate submittals. If you are being considered for an interview, you will be contacted to complete a more comprehensive application, and begin paperwork for the Security Clearance screening process.
Security Check. One condition of employment is that an employee must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/Single Scope Background Investigation (TS/SSBI) clearance. As part of that process, after the JT3 Intern Application is received and reviewed, prospective candidates will be contacted by JT3 Program Security via email to obtain permission to initiate a Police and Credit Check. Any information received will be held in strict confidence by our Security organization.
Interview. A screening board of Senior JT3 Management will choose the best prospective candidates, who will then be notified of a scheduled face-to-face interview. Except for out-of-state candidates, JT3 will conduct interviews at our Grier Drive facility (just South of McCarran Airport). All sessions will scrutinize applicable coursework and experience, and additionally look at academic organization, scientific acumen/hobbies, and career goals. The interview will also provide an opportunity for mentors to meet their prospective Interns. Please bring the following to the interview:
- An official transcript through the Fall 2009 Semester (if not previously provided);
- Your degree/course plan (courses and scheduling of courses) for future semesters. A plan that has been coordinated with your academic advisor will be a positive factor in the interview.
Drug Screening. JT3 is a drug free company. Applicants will be asked to take a controlled drug screening exam at a local laboratory after the interview. All employees are subject to random drug screenings during periods of employment.
Hire Notification. Interns will be notified of their hiring (or potential hiring if selected as a backup) by 12 April and will have one week to respond to the offer.
Work Period. Work will commence on or about 17 May and last for 12 weeks (depending on the Intern’s academic schedule). We are flexible as to start / stop dates.
Work Opportunities. There is no guarantee that you will be offered employment following your time as a JT3 Intern. Job offers will be based on performance and potential contributions, but much also depends on our turnover in Engineering personnel and our growth in tasking. In the five years of the Intern Program, however, we have offered permanent positions to the majority of Interns that completed their undergraduate degrees.
Conclusion. JT3 currently employs many graduates from universities across the United States. These employees are highly valued and are involved in every aspect of our support for DOD Tactics, Training and Testing. We need more engineers, computer scientists and scientific based professionals with the same strong credentials and work ethic. We look forward to our Intern Program bringing together motivated students with a company that values and rewards their contributions.
